How are viral diseases are spread?
No matter how you come in contact with a virus it is important to remember that your body has good defenses against them. Most viruses will need a port of entry into the body. The skin is too thick and well defended. Many viruses cannot survive the digestive tract either (although some certainly can.) Open sores or cuts and mucous membranes are the best way in. My CPR instructor calls paper cuts “hepatitis ports” for a reason. Do not rub your eyes (the best way in,) pick your nose or bite your nails with dirty hands. Wash your hands often, clean telephones, keyboards and doorknobs used by multiple people and let people know if you are carrying anything contagious. We cannot stop the spread of viruses but we can slow and limit it.
