How are vampires made?
In fiction there are several different ways to become a vampire. In the World of Darkness universe, for example, vampires are created by removing all of the victim’s blood and replacing it with some of the parent vampire’s, or “sire’s” blood. In other fiction, such as the “vampire slasher” genre of movies from the mid-seventies and early eighties, all that was required was to be bitten. According to Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, the title character became a vampire by “Cursing God with all his heart.” In Anne Rice’s stories the method of becoming a vampire is a little unclear. In Slavic and Chinese traditions, any corpse which was jumped over by an animal, particularly a dog or a cat, was feared to become one of the undead. A body with a wound which had not been treated with boiling water was also at risk. In Russian folklore, vampires were said to have once been witches or people who had rebelled against the Church while they were alive.
