How are United Methodists using the Narnia movie?
Bemus Point (N.Y.) United Methodist Church is encouraging members to see the movie and to take their friends. Bemus Point was one of six United Methodist churches around the country to host official sneak peek events promoting the film and providing ideas for using it for outreach. Jodie P. Boyer is leading a study on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe through the Wesley Foundation at the University of Illinois. Boyer says adults are excited to rediscover stories from their childhood. Many of the people in my study have noted that when they read the books as children, they didnt see the allegory, she said. Edmonds United Methodist Church, near Seattle, did a month-long Sunday school rotation in which children experienced Narnia firsthand. As in the book, class members walked through a wooden door and into a forest surrounding a lamppost. During a lesson on temptation, they learned how to make Turkish Delight, the sweet treat the White Witch used to entice Edmund in Narnia. Colonial P
