Unlike accredited persons, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) are employed by the Police Authority and act under the full control of the Chief Constable. They have a similar, though slightly larger, range of powers to accredited persons and work directly within the local neighbourhood police teams. A significant difference is that PCSOs are able to detain a suspect for 30 minutes if required.
