How are the women of today similar/different to the flappers of the 20s?
Flappers broke the cultural “rules” for how women were “supposed to behave. They cut their hair, drove cars, drank, listened to non-church music, raised their hem lengths and laughed at norms. Women today similar to flappers are women who break the cultural “rules” for how women are “supposed” to behave today. They pierce their ears and whatever else they want to pierce, they speak louder and use language that is considered “unfeminine”, they enter professions and politics that women aren’t “supposed” to enter, they increasingly pass on motherhood or marriage, they dress in whatever clothes they want, they go without make-up if they want, they don’t starve themselves into shapes or get boob jobs just to sexually please men and they can lead rather than follow.
