How are the town-gown relationships in Geneseo?
Geneseo is a college town. The population of the Village doubles in size when students come back to school. It is part of Geneseo’s mission to serve the greater community, and the College does so by inviting the public to many lectures, concerts, films, and theatrical performances on campus. Geneseo students contribute richly to the community through volunteer services, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Adopt a Family, America Reads, local tutoring, days of caring, and holiday parties for local children sponsored by clubs and Greek organizations. Students also significantly impact the local economy, patronizing local shops and restaurants and supporting the tax base through the rents they pay local landlords. The College is proud of the respectful community relations it has built with the Town and Village of Geneseo, but sustaining good relationships is continual process. It’s important to pay attention to parking regulations on Village streets: shop owners need
