How are the top players identified in the SYL ODP and what are some of the safeguards in the process to make sure that players are properly being identified?
Doyle: This system is based on league play. Every league game will be evaluated utilizing the National Scouting Network. The National Scouting Network is vertically integrated from the SYL Technical Director level to the individual team coach, which are given the titles of Club Scouts. Club Scouts identify five players on the opposing team and two from their own at the completion of each game. If they only feel they can identify one, than so be it, but they can mark up to five players who excelled during the match. When club scouts make their selections they should consider, but are not limited to, choosing a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward as part of their selections. This information is recorded on the game score sheet and the SYL administration will compile the information for analysis. This concept on identification provides the individual player with the best opportunity to excel to the highest levels, because they are consistently being evaluated in their natural env
