How are the surface area and volume of Great Salt Lake determined?
The water-level elevation of Great Salt Lake is measured at three gages. The north part of the lake is measured at Saline, and the south part at Promontory Point and Saltair Boat Harbor. From these elevations, capacity and area tables are used to estimate the surface area and the volume of water in the lake. Return to top of page. Return to USGS Utah home page.
