How are the Sound-Spelling Cards aligned to our current adoption?
In California, the current elementary Reading/Language Arts instructional programs include Sound-Spelling Cards in their English versions and one of the programs includes a set of Sound-Spelling Cards in their Spanish Language Arts version. Our Sound Spelling Cards are aligned to the same speech-to-print research and pedagogy as the cards published in these programs, but they are uniquely different in that they also align to the research and pedagogical frameworks of comparative linguistics and transferability between Spanish and English. The one clear and consistent goal of all instructional programs in California is for all students to become proficient in English Language Arts and our Sound-Spelling Cards are a carefully designed tool for alternative bilingual classrooms who build upon the foundations of primary language to develop bilingual competency.
