How are the serial consoles configured?
To start, there are two servers: serial.net.cmu.edu is the “master”, and serial2.net.cmu.edu. If additional servers were purchased, they could become slaves to serial.net.cmu.edu as well. The goal is to have people connect to serial.net, see a comprehensive list of available ports, and connect from there directly to the device’s port, whether it’s on the master or one of the slaves. It’s difficult figuring out where to start in an explanation of how the system works.
