A low pressure belt exists over the equator.This is a region of calm, ascending air and is called Doldrums.A high pressure belt exists over 30 degree north latitude.This high pressure belt is called Horse latitudes.This belt is characterized by calm or light winds and clear weather.Hence a pressure gradient exists between these two belts and wind starts moving towards the equator from the horse latitudes.This northerly wind is deflected to the right by the coriolis force and is deflected to the right to become north east trade winds.
