How are the municipalities elected to the MPO?
Seven of the 14 MPO members are municipalities. The City of Boston is a permanent member, and the other 6 municipal members—3 cities and 3 towns—are elected. One city and one town are elected each year to three-year terms. The MPO election is held at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council´s annual spring meeting and is administered by MAPC and the MBTA Advisory Board.
