How are the MSBA certification programs managed?
Both programs are governed by a Board made up of attorneys who are themselves specialists in the area. The Boards represent a range of practice areas and experience within the specialty. The Boards meet regularly to discuss general certification matters. Each member reviews and votes on each application for certification. In addition, the Board reviews the details of any ethical or professional complaint disclosed in yearly audits or recertification applications and determines whether or not the attorney should be certified. The Board has the authority to decertify an attorney for failure to comply with certification standards. The certification program is self-funded by certification fees. The program employs a Certification Manager who administers the program on a daily basis and assists the Boards in their governance of the programs.
