How are the LCJBs progressing since being launched on 1 April 2003?
Whilst the boards were officially launched on 1 April 2003 they had been operating in shadow form for several months prior to this. A lot of work was done centrally and in local areas to prepare for the launch and delivery plans have been agreed with all 42 areas. These cover work on Narrowing the Justice Gap, Ineffective Trials, Timeliness and Persistent Young Offenders. The Confidence Framework has been issued to Boards as a tool to help them to develop detailed actions on improving public confidence in the CJS. Local areas are also in the process of establishing consultative and advisory arrangements to support the work of the boards. The main aim of the consultation process will be to engage effectively with local organisations and bodies to help ensure delivery of target and other key outcomes.
