How are the law of conservation of mass and the law of definite proportions explained?
Law of conservation of mass states that the amount you start with in a chemical reaction (reactants) should be the same amount you end with (products.) There is a time when masses are different, and that is during nuclear reactions (fusion/fission) During that time one starts with alternating masses because in the products are created through the conversion between mass and energy. This also has a conversion itself because only a definite amount of energy is created for that much mass available. Law of definite proportions: Take this for example: Your have a bicycle, there is 1 frame for every 2 wheels. Say you have 40 wheels, how many bicycles can you make? 20 Lets say you have 35 wheels, how many bicycles can you make now? only 17, with 1 wheel left over. this is because there aren’t enough wheels to make that 18th bicycle. This law states that compounds have a fixed ratio. Anything that doesnt fulfill that ratio will be left over.
