How are the investigations classified?
All learning activities or investigations can be classified into one of three categories: Developmental, Application, and Integration. Developmental activities are designed to have students learn about a particular concept in mathematics. These activities engage the student in developing an understanding of the concept. These activities involve conjecturing, testing, modeling, reflecting, sharing and reacting to new ideas. The main goal is to have the student form and develop and initial understanding of a new concept. Application activities are designed to have students reinforce and consolidate what they have learned about a particular concept. These activities act as the practice aspect of the learning. These activities involve games, projects, performance tasks, and other activities that require the students to use what they have learned. Integration activities are those that are designed to extend the concept that the students have learned by integrating it with other mathematical
