How are the Instructors selected for the LBJ Fire Academy?
There is a two-tiered instructor selection process for the LBJ Fire Academy. The top tier involves the Lead Instructor selection process. The second-tier involves the selection process for support and adjunct instructors. All prospective instructor candidates come from the ranks of the Austin Fire Department. At a minimum, lead instructor candidates must be TCFP Instructor II certified. Instructor candidates are required to submit an LBJ Instructor application and rsum. Additionally, AISD compliant background checks are administered for all of our instructors. Lead Instructor Process: Lead Instructors sit for a thirty minute structured interview before a sub-panel of the LBJ Advisory Committee. Lead Instructor candidates then transition into a preparation room where they have thirty minutes to prepare for delivering an instructor demonstration.
