How are the individual companies grouped into industries?
Companies are grouped by D&B according to the Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC). D&B assigns companies active within multiple SICs to the SIC that accounts for the largest portion of the firm’s revenues. While the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) has replaced the SIC in terms of identifying companies, the SIC systems is still widely recognized. For the sake of simplicity, we have chosen to retain the SIC organization. Since industries are referenced only by name, the difference between the two classification systems has little impact.
