How are the genomics research projects and platforms financed?

Requests for support of large-scale research projects and science & technology platforms must be submitted to Genome Canada by a Genome Centre. Genome Canada funds up to a maximum of 50% of eligible costs of projects and platforms it approves. The balance of the funding must be secured from other funding organizations. For example, if following peer review, it is determined that $10,000,000 is required to fund a research proposal over a 3-year period, Genome Canada will fund up to a maximum of $5,000,000 and the other $5,000,000 must be secured from other sources. These funds can come from a number of other funding organizations, both within and outside Canada (e.g., governments, not-for-profit organizations, industry).
