How are the degree of sorting and the amount of rounding related to the transportation of sand grains?
Typically, the rounder the grains (i.e. the more ‘mature’ the texture is) the further they have travelled. However, sorting is related to energy of a depositional environment and can be screwed up by some processes such as debris flows. For instance in a submarine fan turbidity currents will deposit with very irregularly sorted textures and due to the high energy associated MAY create angular clasts, even though the process is very distal to the source.
