How are the dates chosen for the GGF?
Typically the GGF is the first weekend for “fall rates” at golf resorts. Being relatively poor twenty-somethings at the time, paying for a golf trip at midsummer prices was not as enticing as playing for 50% of that. The “fall rates” at most Michigan resorts start around the last weekend in September. GGF’s 1 through 13 have been either the last weekend in September or the first weekend in October. Since most attendees are still on a budget (although for houses and kids these days) the tradition of mid-fall has stuck.
