How are the characters in the crucible book related to the McCarthy Trials?
Senator McCarthy’s misdirected hunt for Amerian communists is represented in The Crucible, especially when Abigail, a few other girls and particularly Mary turned people in as witches (for example, John Proctor) in order to save themselves. McCarthy’s hunt for Communists in America resulted in a few things. One was the “Waldorf Statement,” issued by Eric Johnston, president of the Motion Pictures Association of America, which said the group would fire all those in the “Hollywood Ten” (I’ll get to them) and never hire anyone who had anything to do with Communism.
