How are the AVHS classes structured?
Our courses are asynchronous, which means that there are no live meeting times during which students and their teacher gather as a class. Students read lessons, work on and submit their assignments, and contribute to class discussions at any time during the school day, as long as they keep up with the teacher’s assignments and pacing. AVHS courses are designed either as repeated semester-long courses, year-long courses, or a sequence of two semester-long courses. Students with 504 plans may not do well in virtual classes. We cannot modify our content, assignments, quizzes or tests. The only modifications that work in this environment would be “more time” on any given assignment, quiz or test. Any other modifications would need to be done on the school site by the school personnel.
