How are the average class sizes and enrolment figures for schools worked out?

0

Average class sizes and enrolment figures come out of the yearly school census. This year’s census was held on 27 February 2009. Enrolment figures are defined by the FTE of a school and not the head count. A full-time student is equivalent to a time fraction of 1.0. A part-time students workload can be expressed as a fraction of the full-time workload. This fraction is referred to as Full-Time Equivalent(FTE). The primary average class size is based on primary students enrolled in Prep-6 classes. The secondary class averages are based on English class sizes. English classes are used as an indication of the size of classes in secondary schools as almost all students study English.
