How are telecommunications and networking costs affected by the converged communications initiative?
Converged communications provides the means to deliver multiple services in a “bundle” to all University faculty and staff members much the same as what is becoming available in the residential market, thus removing financial disincentives for using technology. However, converged communications blurs the definition of services that used to be delivered via separate technologies and makes traditional charging structures and methods illogical. When the marketplace transitioned from charging for services on a measured or variable basis, NUIT developed a new charging methodology to distinguish and bill for Core Service and Non-Core Service charges.
