How are technology and literacy incorporated into the curriculum at HTHI?
We want our students to be producing and creating technology as opposed to being merely consumers of it. Use of technology is not isolated to multimedia courses, but is infused into the curriculum of all classes through projects and course work. For example, students in a Physics/Math I course may learn how to use Excel for data analysis and graphing, PowerPoint for giving class presentations, Dreamweaver for creating a digital portfolio, Flash for creating simulations of Newtonian motion, C+ for programming robots to complete a specific task, Vegas for editing short documentaries, etc… Technology is used as either a tool for creating work or as a medium through which to display work. In this way, students gain useful technology skills though application to core, academic content, rather than learning about technology for technology’s sake.
