How are students referred for the self assessment, Brief Intervention Services, and/or treatment?

During each academic school year, 9th and 11th grade students within TUHSD will have an opportunity to take an alcohol self assessment. It will also be offered to other students in the high schools and available online at www.betheinfluencemarin.org. The self assessment tool is both research-based and web-based, and designed to identify level of risk and/or harm due to current alcohol use. Based upon their score, students may either self-refer to Brief Intervention Services based on the results of their alcohol self assessment or they may also be referred through other sources (e.g. parent/guardian, teacher, Probation, Youth Court, school administration, a counselor, friend, etc.). During the initial meeting with a Brief Intervention counselor, students will be assessed to determine if Brief Intervention Services are appropriate.
