How are students placed into courses for the coming year?
Current students are placed by their teachers. Teachers apply criteria that may include a student’s academic performance, passion for the material, comportment in class, standardized test scores and overall work load. Placements are reviewed several times by the academic departments. New students are more difficult to place since we know less about them. Placement for math and foreign language is accomplished with a placement test. For other disciplines, students wishing to be placed in an advanced or honors course should contact the Director of Studies Liz O’Hara for information about which teachers they should appeal to and what materials they will need to present.
