How are students graded in “band” class?
Students are graded mainly on class preparation and effort. Students who bring their instruments and their books every day, show effort during class, and show that some at-home practicing is being done will receive a Satisfactory grade. In 6th grade, students who are consistently prepared and are always able to play every assigned song will receive a higher grade of Excellent. During the 4th quarter, a final exam will be given which will constitute 25% of the 4th quarter grade. Students who forget any combination of their instrument, music, playable reed (for clarinets and saxes), 3 times or more during a marking period will automatically get one grade lower that what their effort and class performance has earned.
