How are stomach and intestinal ulcers treated?
• First of all, stop taking NSAID’s! These medications should probably be stopped for several months to prevent recurrence of ulcers. • Antacid therapy can help with ulcer healing. • Medications that coat ulcers can be used in the early stages of healing (i.e., sulcralfate). • Occasionally a medicine called misoprostol can be used to inhibit stomach acid production and improve healing of stomach ulcer.
