How are Standard Foster Care and TFC Different?
Children of all ages are served in Standard and Therapeutic foster care. All children are in the custody of Social Services and have a DSS case worker. The primary difference in the children is their behavior and/or needs. To qualify for TFC a child or youth must have seen a therapist and been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder or have a special medical need. Due to the needs of the children, therapeutic foster parents have the added support of agency staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, along with many other benefits.
