How are staff alerted to items on hold?
As noted above, the DirectReader operates within the librarys own ILS circulation software. Therefore, staff are alerted to holds through the ILS software (in short, no change from existing procedures). The MultiReader software module is used in place of the librarys circulation program. When the ILS, communicating through SIP to the MultiReader program, identifies a hold item, a message appears on screen, a audio alert is activated (saying hold) and a hold ticket is automatically printed.
