How are solar communities selected by VPIRG Energy?
VPIRG Energy is excited to work in communities across the state. Solar electricity (or photovoltaic) is most cost-effective in Green Mountain Power territory since that utility supports solar power by offering a special solar rebate rate to its customers, driving down the cost of going solar even further. Solar hot water is most cost-effective where homeowners are using electricity, fuel oil or propane to heat the water – since solar thermal systems are less expensive than those fuels. So VPIRG Energy will be prioritizing communities based on cost-effectiveness as we roll across the state. Solar electricity is available through VPIRG Energy in Charlotte, Hinesburg and Shelburne. Solar hot water is available in Montpelier, East Montpelier, Berlin and Middlesex.
