How are social security numbers devised and clues to detecting SSN fraud?
The first three digits of a social security number represent the state the person lived in when application was made to the Social Security System. The numbers for SC are 247 through 251. The last four number are the ones that identify the individual. Regardless of where a person lives or moves, the entire nine-digit number stays the same. Clues to detect fraudulent numbers: ending in 4 zeros; leading numbers 73 through 79; leading number is 6, 8 or 9.
