Web-based courses are composed of HTML text, JPG and GIF graphics, and WE audio files that are played by a proprietary Java-based content player. Courses have no server-side component, and can run on non-Intel and non-Windows NT server and client platforms. SkillSoft Web-based courses can be deployed using three different options: NetPlay, NetDownload, and NetPlay/Local Player. NetPlay courses are played by a Java applet version of the player. Each time a course is initiated, the player applet is copied to the browser cache and launched. The player applet fetches the necessary files as the learner progresses through the course. No third-party software, plug-ins, or helper applications are required. Nothing is downloaded or stored permanently on the client machine, except for data stored in the browser cache. When used without the Learning Assistant, NetPlay courses store user results in a cookie on the workstation. NetDownload courses are architecturally identical to browser-playable c
