Part 1 and Part 2 are scored separately. Part 1 is scored on competition day (except participants at Remote sites who have Part 1 scored by JETS). This score determines a team’s local and state rankings. The Part I score is equal to the number of questions answered correctly from the 80 multiple-choice questions posed. Each question is worth one point for a total of 80 points; no percentages are used. Part 2 is scored after the competition concludes by a TEAMS committee and is worth a total of 400 possible points (100 points per question). This score combined with a team’s Part 1 score becomes the team’s national score. National rankings are based on a team’s national score.

Each essay question has 10 possible points for a total of 150 possible points. Essay scores are scaled using the standard deviation method, which places that total score on a 200-point scale. There are 200 possible points on the Multistate portion.
