How are Rutgers Professional Golf Course Turf Management Programs different from other providers?
F: There are typically two types of schools that offer turf management training. One kind of school offers training to become a golf pro (PGA) which has nothing to do with actually maintaining a golf course or becoming a golf course superintendent. The other type of school offers a 4-year program. By contrast, our 2-year program gives our students exactly what they need to become a golf course superintendent but in less time. We usually have great feedback from our students which is important to us. We’ve tweaked the programs to perfection thanks to the feedback. We also work directly with our students. Do you work with students to help them find a job in turf management? F: Yes, I do. They tell me what geographic area they are interested in working in and I help by contacting alumni and networking. I also keep an up-to-date “job book” which contains offers from alumni and many other parties who know about our programs. What kinds of turf management jobs do your students go on to take?
