How are roommates assigned?

• For new students there is a roommate matching process designed to match roommates based on certain criteria; such as smoking preference, early morning person, night person, quiet study environment, music/tv study environment, messy or clean room, etc.

• If you know other students who currently live or will be living in University Housing, you can request them by name and every effort will be made to place you in the same apartment. Please make sure that you and your preferred roommate(s) request each other and that you are choosing the same apartment type. • If you do not know anyone with whom you might want to share an apartment, roommates will be assigned to you based on your answers to the Roommate Compatibility Questionnaire. That questionnaire is sent to you later in the application process. • While every effort is made to accommodate specific roommate requests and to match you with compatible roommates, Housing cannot guarantee that you will get the people you requested or that you will get a completely compatible roommate.

Roommates are assigned by the Residence Life Office. Assignments are made using the information supplied on Residence Hall Agreement. If you have not yet received your Residence Hall Agreement, please let us know ASAP. Whenever possible, individuals are matched according to that information. Likewise, mutual requests for roommates and other specific requests are considered on a case by case basis.
