How are recyclables collected?
Each residential customer is provided a recycling bin for newspapers, aluminum, tin, glass, and plastic. The City’s contract refuse hauler will send a special truck around to pick up recyclables on the same day as regular refuse collection. Recyclables are collected separate from regular refuse. What items cannot be recycled in the City’s program? We cannot accept magazines, phone books, junk mail, aluminum foil or trays, Pyrex, plate glass or paint cans. As capabilities for handling other materials increase and markets are secured, the program may be expanded. Do I need to separate cans from bottles, etc.? You may, but you don’t have to. Simply place all recyclable materials in your recycling bin. Materials will be separated at the recycling facility. Do I have to cut the printing or the labels off my plastic milk jugs or soda bottles? No. Rinse them out and throw only caps and rings in the garbage.
