How are Professional Values defined?
Honesty/Integrity – The act of being fair, truthful, straightforward, keeping one’s word, meeting commitments, and recognition and avoidance of conflict of interests both with patients and colleagues. Compassion – Sympathy for the suffering of others with the desire to help. Excellence – A conscientious effort to exceed ordinary expectations and to make a commitment to life-long learning. Habitual and judicious use of communication, knowledge, technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotions, values, and reflection in daily practice. Altruism – The unselfish concern for the welfare of others and acting on this interest without regard for self-interest.
