How are potential candidates screened for the adjunct teacher program?
There are multiple screening processes in place. A profile of the AT has been developed and will be provided to businesses in the Recruitment Toolkit. The initial screening by businesses will provide the first level of screening. The orientation offers a second level of screening to ensure that AT candidates are appropriate for the school placement and the placement is successful for both the business and the school. Screening questions have been developed for use by businesses, districts, and ADE. Application for the fingerprint clearance card and for the substitute teaching certificate requires answering a series of background questions. The pre-service training will provide an opportunity for additional screening. If it is determined that an individual is not appropriate for the classroom, he/she will be counseled out of the AT program. The AT will be placed as Teacher of Record only when the AT, mentor teacher, and principal agree that the AT is ready to assume responsibility.
