How are pirated DVDs made?
For the higher quality dvds that are sold in Asia, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc, someone either involved in the production of a movie steals a copy or is bribed to hand one over. From there it is copied and released for sale approx US $1-5. These sometimes have different scenes or endings than the release to theater version. Lower quality pirated movies are usually done after their theatrical release and are made by someone bringing a camcorder to the theater and recording the movie. Then it is processed on a home computer and converted to .avi, divx, .mpg, or another format and uploaded to file sharing sites. Many times there will be several different versions of varying quality due to the fact that there are numerous groups recording and releasing their own copies. While many are poor quality, ie: people moving in front of the camera, a hand covering the lens and light at times to prevent movie ushers from noticing the camera, others are actually fairly decent.
