How Are Pellet Stoves Vented?
What Needs to Be Vented? Though pellet stoves don’t generate any visible smoke as a fireplace does, they do release exhaust gas, water vapor, and a fine ash substance that has to be vented to the outside and prevented from seeping into the house by the installation of an efficient venting system. Venting Standards Most pellet stoves have one of two kinds of venting systems: an electric or combustion exhaust fan or the draw of natural air draft. There is a vent pipe made especially for pellet stoves and it is called PL vent pipe that is made of stainless steel and is double walled for insulation. All joints of PL pipe must be sealed to a gas-tight standard in order to keep the exhaust materials from seeping through the gaps when the heat-generated pressure elevates. Sometimes pellet stoves can be vented through your previously installed brick chimney. However, you may still need to line your existing chimney with a metal liner or PL pipe if your chimney is not in perfect condition. Also
