How Are PCOS and Infertility Related?
There is a definite relationship between PCOS and infertility. In fact, there are women whose infertility is directly caused by PCOS – an acronym for the condition known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. This condition causes a woman’s body to over-produce insulin, which then results in her body responding with heightened synthesis of androgen levels – which are male hormones. These elevated levels of male hormones end up causing infertility. Egg-carrying follicles begin to develop within the ovaries when a woman menstruates, with those follicles begin gradually eliminated until all but the one producing the ovulation egg is left. The problem with PCOS and infertility is that women suffering from the disease never manage to produce the required female hormones necessary to form mature follicles that can produce the required egg.
