How are patients evaluated for kidney transplants at Emory?
The evaluation for transplant includes meeting members of our team and undergoing a number of tests. The tests determine how damaged the kidneys are and whether there are heart, vascular or lung problems that may preclude kidney transplantation. Patients are also evaluated for psychosocial problems that may interfere with their ability to manage the stresses of transplantation. They must also be capable and willing to adhere to the disciplined medical regimen post-transplant.
