How are pastors selected for churches?
They have a candidating system; we have what’s been described as a “modified itinerant” system, which sometimes borders on candidating. The MC Constitution says, “The manner of pastoral selection shall be left to the decision of each district, with the provision that the local church, the pastor, and the district shall be involved in the negotiations.” That’s basically the UB system. The executive board of each district serves as a “pastoral relations committee,” which helps churches select a pastor, giving “due consideration to the preferences of churches and pastors.” This committee and the church board work together to fill vacancies.
