How are organic products checked and certified?
The authenticity and quality of the organic products, as well as the processes and the practices that are applied, are conditioned as a whole by the laws of the European Union (2092/91 and 1804/99) which are in effect in Greece. According to the E.U. regulations, the production process for the organic products is checked through all stages, according to strict specifications that are posted by approved inland and foreign control and certification organizations, which are under the supervision of the Ministry for Agriculture of the land, they belong to. In Greece, these organizations are BIO-HELLAS, DIO και PHYSIOLOGIKI. These organizations check the land, in which the product was cultivated, the ways of production and transport and, generally, every activity that has to do with the product, from seeding to harvest, potential transformation and packaging.
