How are monotheistic religions violent?
Hi! First of all, you can’t just pre-assume that monotheist religions will lead to religious violance, since violance has NO religion. Second thing is, if followers of the three major religions are to ever cause illegal violance then it will be due to their ignorance, specially that they are supposed to be united and one since they all, according to their books, were ordered to worship None except the God All-Mighty.
Not all monotheistic religions are violent. Historically, Christianity has been an aggressive faith, and numerous non Christians, specifically Jews, were forced to convert or else be killed. Judaism was the first organised faith to be monotheistic, but it doesn’t claim to be the ‘only’ way to G-d, thus you will never, ever find Jews trying to convert non Jews.
I don’t think monotheism specificaly is violent but I do believe that since there are so many different vareities of cultures and religions that they might clash and have in the past and today. Since every religion sees God differently that may lead to a lot of fighting and those that are extremists may take violent action. However, monotheism in itself isn’t naturally violent.
The three dominant monotheistic religions in the world, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, have extremists. They all think their religion is the “true” religion, which leads to violence. Islamic extremism is mostly due to the doctrine (hatred of Christians and Jews). However, there are forms of Jewish and Christian extremism. Eric Rudolph, who bombed the 1996 Olympic Games and different abortion clinics, is an example of a Christian extremist. His attacks were religiously motivated. Another instance of violence among monotheistic religions is the Christian Crusades (the Catholic Church sought to rid of “enemies” of the Church (non-Christians).
