How are men and women represented in the media? Are these representations accurate?
…..hope not. But I think a lot of the time what is shown BECOMES accurate because of its influence over society. I think the different sexes are very stereotyped in terms of what they r interested in and how they think (eg women=shoes, diets, emotional, perfectionists men=sex, sport, messy, simple) which I think is not generally true. I think women today r presented with just a new kind of sexism. Movies NEVER show unattractive women, even for comedies, and though existant, have very few unattracttive men…(think in this way we r missing out on a lot of damn good actors simply cause they look too flawed) women r very sexualised in video clips etc. I think this is just as bad as previous presentations of women, yet most of it is self inflicted as women present THEMSELVES this way.
