Males are usually tested for STDs such as herpes, HIV, HPV, syphilis etc. Even through the ways of testing are standard, however, there are a number for male clinics that provide services of testing STDs only for men. The doctor checks for any physical signs such as bumps and rashes on the body and around the genital area of the male. The doctor will also check for warts or other signs of infection. If he sees nothing, the internal situation is assessed by the doctor through asking a set of questions regarding pain while urinating or any kind of discharge from the penis, swelling or irritation in the throat. The doctor will also check for swollen glands. Pubic hair, urethral opening and the anus is also checked for any infections. A digital anal exam is held to check for any prostrate inflammation. The final test is done through collecting cells from the penis for a microscopic test. The doctor may insert a plastic stick inside the penis hole to obtain the live cells.
